Our dentists offer dental crowns and bridges to patients in the Carbonear community looking to improve the appearance of chipped or missing teeth.
If your tooth is damaged but not lost, a crown can be used to restore its shape, appearance and function.
If you have had a root canal, a crown is typically placed to strengthen your tooth structure.
Crowns can also be used to support large fillings, attach a bridge, or cover discolored or deformed teeth. They can also be placed over dental implants.
With good oral hygiene, a crown can last about five to eight years or even longer.
A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth in your mouth. They are used to literally "bridge" the gaps in your smile to neighbouring teeth.
If you have healthy teeth on each side of a missing tooth, your dentist will first file down the two healthy teeth to prepare them for the bridge. On your first visit, we prepare the supporting teeth for the bridge.
This is done to make room for the crowns that will fit over the supporting teeth. These crowns serve as holders of the pontic, which is the missing tooth's replacement.
During your second visit, your dentist removes the temporary bridge and places the custom made bridge in your mouth. The crowns are either cemented to your healthy teeth or attached to your dental implants on each side of the missing tooth (or teeth).
When your crown feels comfortable, your dentist will cement the bridge into place.
